PATH To The Future Fundraiser To Raise Money For At-risk Youth
This week, staff writer Laura Rysz talks with Kay-Cee Pezak-O’Malley about PA Treatment & Healing’s PATH to the Future Fundraiser, which raises money for at-risk youth.
Educational background:Earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Keystone College
Title: Co-chair with clinical director Megan Franzone
Q: What is PATH’s Mission, and how does it help at-risk youth?
A: PA Treatment & Healing’s mission is to help our clients lead the most full, empowered lives they can by overcoming obstacles in their lives. We currently work with adolescents ages 10 through 18 who have mental health, emotional and/or behavioral diagnoses. We use a multitude of different therapies, including art therapy and mindfulness-based practices. Our goal is always to assist them in managing themselves more effectively and to guide them on a path to success for their futures.
Q: Explain how the fundraiser works.
A: The fundraiser will have a $20 entrance fee. This includes drink specials as well as light fare and desserts. There also will be entertainment provided by Light Weight. Basket raffle tickets will be sold separately.
Q: What are some of the basket raffles available at the event?
A: We have a lot of great baskets that have been donated by both employees and local businesses. Some of these include New York Giants tickets, a spa basket, a month of free fitness classes as well as gift certificates to local restaurants.
Q: How will proceeds be used?
A: This fundraiser will specifically raise funds for our intensive adolescent program. It will help our staff have the ability purchase art supplies for the children, some new technology and to be able to take them on field trips and outings throughout the year. We’ve also started to adapt more mindfulness-based practices, including yoga and meditation, so funds would be used to purchase yoga mats and accessories to work with local yoga studios and mindfulness-based practitioners.
Q: Why is community support so important to your cause?
A: For starters, we are a nonprofit human services agency. Donations from our community members and local businesses are what help keep us in business and able to help the kids we work with. We also serve multiple counties, including Lackawanna, Luzerne, Wayne and Susquehanna. The children we are working with are all part of these communities, and we would love nothing more than to tell them that the people who surround them on a daily basis, whether they know them or not, are supportive of them and their needs.
