NEW YORK (AP) _ A woman injured when a giant Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon knocked over a lamp post filed a $20 million lawsuit Monday against the department store.

Maria Clohessy suffered four broken fingers, a cut scalp and a brain injury after 45 mph winds forced the ``Cat in the Hat'' balloon into the metal pole last Nov. 27, court papers said.

The state Supreme Court suit said Macy's ``incompetent, ill-trained, inept and unskilled'' employees ignored the windy conditions and elected to ``throw caution to the winds.''

The suit also names the city as a defendant.

Clohessy, 45, was standing near Kathleen Caronna, who suffered a fractured skull and was in a coma for almost a month after debris rained on spectators. She has sued Macy's and the city for $395 million.

Ronnie Taffet, Macy's vice president for public relations, wouldn't comment.
