The Hargrave softball team is advancing to the regional finals for the first time since 2015, their state championship year, after sweeping Lorena 4-2 and 10-0 in the regional semifinals.
The Lady Falcons’ scoring in Game 1 on Wednesday night in Madisonville began in the top of the second inning when Kenzie Gates’s triple drove in a run.
Dez Cardenas led the offense with two hits, both singles.
Janes pitched a complete game, giving up three hits and striking out 11 batters and walking two.
Hargrave won the second game 10-0 in a run-rule-shortened five innings on Thursday night, also in Madisonville..
Bella Reid hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning.
The Lady Falcons added five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning off RBI from Janes, Reid, Christin Haygood and Lindsey Gonzales.
Janes pitched all five innings, giving up one hit and striking out 12 batters without walking any.
The Hargrave baseball team is advancing to the regional semifinals for the second consecutive season and the fifth time in the last seven seasons after sweeping Hardin-Jefferson in the regional quarterfinals..
Both games took place Thursday, May 16 at Anahuac. Hargrave won the first game 2-1 and the second game 4-0.
In the first game, the falcons trailed 1-0 going into the top of the seventh inning. Cam Rhodes came up with the bases loaded and two outs and smacked a double to right field scoring Justin Shively and Cody Oliphant.
Noah Zamora got the win.
In the second game, all five the Falcons’ hits came from separate players. Rhodes, Grant O’Neal, Matthew Dorcz, and Shively each got a hit.
Dorcz had a two-RBI double to left field in the bottom of the third inning, and Hargrave added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Micah Hakes got the win.
