Belo to acquire The Gleaner newspaper
HENDERSON, Ky. (AP) _ A.H. Belo Corp., parent company of The Dallas Morning News, is buying The Gleaner newspaper and other media properties operated by the Dear family.
Walter Dear, president of the Gleaner and Journal Publishing Co. in Henderson, announced the sale Tuesday. He plans to retire. The sale, at an undisclosed price, is expected to be completed March 31.
Burl Osborne, president of Belo’s publishing division and publisher of The Dallas Morning News, said no changes are planned in management or staff.
Included in the sale are Audubon Printers in Henderson; seven weekly newspapers in Kentucky and Tennessee; Digital Graphics in Evansville; and WFKN-AM in Franklin.
The Gleaner is a daily with a circulation of 11,400 on weekdays and 13,700 on Sunday. The Dear family has operated the paper for 42 years.
