ROOSEVELT, N.Y. (AP) _ Flavor Flav of the rap group Public Enemy was arrested Saturday on a charge of striking his girlfriend, police said.

The rapper, whose real name is William Drayton, was charged with third- degree assault for allegedly punching Karren Ross in the face during an argument on a Roosevelt street, said police spokesman Peter Franzone.

The rapper and his girlfriend live in Roosevelt.

Police released Drayton, 31, pending an appearance Sunday in First District Court in Hempstead.

Public Enemy's third album, ''Fear of a Black Planet,'' sold 1.5 million copies. The Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith labeled lyrics on the album anti-Semitic.
