Police blotter: Wayne grandmother arrested after grandson brings suspected meth to school

EAST LYNN, W.Va. — The following information was provided by criminal complaints from Wayne County Magistrate Court:

CHILD NEGLECT: A 46-year-old Wayne woman was arrested after her grandson brought suspected crystal meth to East Lynn Elementary School - telling classmates he had “found a tooth” in a plastic bag inside his glove.

Cheryl Lynn Brown is charged with child neglect creating risk of injury, according to criminal complaints from Cabell County Magistrate Court.

Wayne County deputies were called to East Lynn Elementary on Monday morning after the school’s principal overheard the kindergartner tell his classmates in the breakfast line that he had “found a tooth” in his glove. The principal asked to see the object, which appeared to be crystal meth inside a small plastic bag, the complaint states.

The boy told the principal he had spent the weekend at Brown’s residence in the 1500 block of Little Lynn Road in Wayne with her and his mother.

Brown was booked into Western Regional Jail at 4 p.m. Monday on a $30,000 cash-only bond.

Public intoxication, disorderly conduct, midnight Saturday, 700 block of 6th Avenue.

The following information was provided by booking records at the Western Regional Jail:

Tara Danielle Cornell, 26, was incarcerated at 3:15 p.m. Monday. Authorities in Cabell County charged her with possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, and child neglect resulting in injury. Bond was $48,000 cash.

Larry Ray Grimm Jr., 45, was incarcerated at 8:30 a.m. Monday. Authorities in Mason County charged him with conspiracy to commit a felony. Bond was $50,000 cash.

Paul Matthew Maines, 36, was incarcerated at 8:30 a.m. Monday. Authorities in Mason County charged him with conspiracy to commit a felony. Bond was $50,000 cash.

Brenda Lee McCarty, 56, was incarcerated at 8:30 a.m. Monday. Authorities in Mason County charged her with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute. Bond was not set.

Sean Thomas Ruark, 38 was incarcerated at 8:30 a.m. Monday. Authorities in Mason County charged him with conspiracy. Bond was $50,000 cash.

Shawn Raney Seyler, 25, was incarcerated at 8:30 a.m. Monday. Authorities in Mason County charged him with conspiracy to commit a felony, burglary, and a capias warrant. Bond was $50,000 cash.

Troy Eugene Bryant, 33, was jailed at 12:01 a.m. Monday. Authorities in Cabell County charged him with being a fugitive from justice. Bond was not set.

Aaron Michael Dean, 23, was jailed at 1 a.m. Monday. Authorities in Cabell County charged him with a home confinement violation. Bond was not set.

Richard Keith Leegan, 35, was jailed at 6:10 p.m. Sunday. Authorities in Cabell County charged him with a probation violation. Bond was not set.
