ST. LOUIS (AP) — A man has been charged in a deadly shooting at a downtown St. Louis hotel for low-income residents.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 36-year-old Danny Keyes is charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of an unidentified man. No attorney is listed for Keyes in online court records.

Charging documents say Keyes had a “prior altercation” with the victim and grabbed a gun before heading Friday to the lobby of the Mark Twain Hotel. Witnesses said the men struggled and Keyes said, “That’s what you get for fighting me.” Witnesses also claimed that Keyes fired at least once while his victim was already on the ground in front of the hotel.

Arriving officers spotted Keyes holding a gun. Keyes surrendered.
