HURRICANE-REMOTE PACIFIC ISLANDS

HONOLULU (AP) — Seven researchers have been evacuated from a remote atoll in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands as a powerful hurricane headed their way, officials said Wednesday. A research vessel picked up the seven from French Frigate Shoals, said Kate Toniolo, the acting superintendent of the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument. MAUI POOL LIMIT

WAILUKU, Hawaii (AP) — The National Park Service is considering implementing a wristband system as way to manage crowds at the popular Pools of Oheo on Maui. Haleakala National Park closed the pools in the Kipahulu District indefinitely in January 2017 following a rockslide that injured a visitor. SENT: 300 words.

HAWAII VOLCANO-TOURISM

HILO, Hawaii (AP) — Big Island officials are working on a public-private partnership to create a viewing platform for people to see the new fissure and lava from the Kilauea volcano eruption. West Hawaii Today reports the Hawaii County administration outlined plans Tuesday to construct the platform and a short trail near Lava Tree State Monument. SENT: 255 words.
