Cordray,DeWine,Kavanaugh Debates: Darcy cartoon

CLEVELAND,Ohio -- Wednesday evening, Richard Cordray and Mike DeWine debated at the University of Dayton in the first of three debates scheduled in their race to become Ohio’s next Governor.

Cordray is a five-time champion on Jeopardy.  DeWine looks like he could have been the model for Mister Peabody.  But in their first debate, the bookish candidates to be Ohio’s Governerd came out swinging like they were two Mixed Martial Arts fighters.

The aggressiveness of both candidates echoed the attack ads each have been running, and reflects how close polls show the race.

Right off the bat, the candidates took on each other over the state’s opioid crises.  Current State Attorney General DeWine claimed former State Attorney General Cordray would be okay with drug dealers only being charged with misdemeanor for possession of enough fentanyl to kill 1,000 people.

Pointing out that DeWine has been “in charge of this opioid crisis for the last eight years,” Cordray jabbed back at DeWine, “That we would listen to you for advice on the drug epidemic would be like listening to the captain of the Titanic.”

My Debate feed froze like the Titanic iceberg before I heard if they were also asked about Ohio’s other big issue, Urban Meyer, or the nation’s current hot topic, the Brett Kavanaugh-Christine Blasey Ford debate.

Blasey hopes an FBI investigation would produce more witnesses.

Dr. Blasey and her lawyers are calling for an FBI investigation before she appears in any hearing.  Blasey hopes an investigation would produce more witnesses to corroborate her account and appear before the Judiciary Committee with her.   The two alleged witnesses that have been named, at various points, say they were in fact not witnesses and have nothing to contribute.

Democrats have argued they are not calling for an FBI investigation to just further delay the process.  They have claimed  the FBI’s investigation of Anita Hill’s allegations only took three days.

Kavanaugh accuser doesn’t know date or home of alleged assault

There’s at least one significant difference between investigating Hill’s allegations and the Blasey allegation.   The incidents Hill alleged had occurred in the recent past.   Not only did Blasey’s alleged sexual assault occur three decades ago, Blasey has said she can’t recall the home where the alleged attempted rape occurred, or the date it occurred.   I’ve heard Blasey’s defenders say victims of assault like she allegedly was subjected to, never forget who attacked them.  Would they forget the house where it occurred and the date?

Sen. Grassley offers Dr. Blasey third, private option to be heard.

Judiciary Committee chairman Chuck Grassley has offered yet a third way for Dr. Blasey to share her first hand account with the committee.   In addition to giving the professor the option of testifying in private or public, he has offered to fly committee staffers to California to interview her privately.

It’s important that the committee hear Dr. Blasey’s account.  She should appear in one of the three forums that have been offered, two of which are private.

The last of the three DeWine-Cordray MMA cage fights is in October in Cleveland.
