1 person dead after car hits tow truck on New Jersey highway
WEST ORANGE, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey State Police say one person is dead after a passenger car drifted into the shoulder of an interstate and struck a tow truck.
Trooper Lawrence Peele said on Saturday that the driver of 2007 Chevrolet Impala died and three passengers were injured on Friday after the vehicle struck a flat-bed tow truck on westbound Interstate 280 in West Orange.
The driver was not identified pending the notification of family. Peele says the victims are all New Jersey residents. A pedestrian at the scene also suffered minor injuries.
He says the tow truck was assisting an ambulance along the side of the highway and that there was no indication that it was assisting anyone at the time of the accident.
He says the accident is under investigation.
