Clear the shelter tomorrow

December 8, 2018

NEEDLES — In the doghouse this holiday season? Escape from the in-the-doghouse blues may be as easy as bringing home a furry family friend for Christmas and the Needles Animal Shelter is jam-packed with them.

A ‘Clear the Shelter’ event is set for noon to 4 p.m. PST Saturday, Dec. 8, at the facility behind the aquatic center off J Street in Needles.

Adoption fees are $31 cash for all dogs and cats during the event and include a certificate for spaying, neutering and vaccinations. No debit or credit cards can be accepted.

Not in the doghouse? You might want to be after you see one of the raffle prizes: a custom-built Mustang blue puppy palace with Snoopy asleep on the top. Charles Schulz’ famous beagle is the brother of Needles resident ‘Spike;’ named after a Schulz family pet. The beloved cartoonist spent part of his boyhood in Needles. The doghouse was built in a program for inmates of the Kingman jail.

There are other prizes as well; tickets can be bought at the event or obtained with donations of 13 gallon trash bags, bleach, laundry soap, cat litter, wet or dry food for dogs or cats, toys or treats.

Regular hours at the Needles Animal Shelter are between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 8 a.m. and noon on Fridays. Always check the shelter for missing pets. Call 760-326-4952.
