NFL:

DOLPHINS-WAKE-QB HITS

DAVIE — Miami Dolphins defensive end Cameron Wake has joined other players in complaining about the NFL’s officiating emphasis to discourage quarterback hits. “It’s sad,” Wake said Friday. “I don’t think it’s a secret that the league is concerned about player safety. It just depends on what players.”

DOLPHINS-JET SWEEP

DAVIE — Ryan Tannehill threw two of the shortest touchdown passes in NFL history last week. The Miami Dolphins quarterback ranks third in the league in yards per pass attempt and fourth in quarterback ratings, partly because a pair of throws — traveling less than a yard each — went in the books as completions covering 18 and 74 yards . By Steven Wine.

DOLPHINS INJURIES

DAVIE — Miami Dolphins tight end A.J. Derby and defensive end Andre Branch have been ruled out of Sunday’s game at New England. Derby suffered a foot injury in last week’s win over Oakland, and Branch hurt his knee. Derby’s injury means more playing time for rookie Mike Gesicki.

JAGUARS-FOURNETTE

JACKSONVILLE — Jacksonville Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette will be a game-day decision for the third straight week. Fournette, who strained his right hamstring in the season opener, was listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the New York Jets despite practice in full Friday.

NFL NOTES

Jaguars linebacker Telvin Smith says he has been involved in two errant calls the last two weeks. Smith says the NFL notified the team that he shouldn’t have been flagged for leading with his helmet while tackling New England receiver Chris Hogan in Week 2. Then, officials missed a holding call on Tennessee left tackle Taylor Lewan on a third-down play late last week that essentially allowed the Titans to run out the clock. By The Associated Press.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL:

T25-FLORIDA-MISSISSIPPI ST

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Coach Dan Mullen’s return to Starkville will grab most of the headlines when his Florida Gators travel to face No. 23 Mississippi State on Saturday. But much more is at stake than an emotional reunion. By David Brandt.

T25--PITTSBURGH-UCF

ORLANDO — No. 13 UCF expects a stern test against Pittsburgh, which has had a knack for upsetting teams with hopes of making the College Football Playoff. The Panthers surprised eventual national champion Clemson on the road two years ago. They ended a disappointing 2017 season by knocking off unbeaten Miami, which had the longest winning streak in the country and was in contention for a CFP berth.

FLORIDA ST-LOUISVILLE

Florida State and Louisville hoped to be contending in the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Atlantic Division at this point of the season. Instead, both are in search of their first conference victory when they met this Saturday. They are a combined 0-3 in league play. By Gary B. Graves.
