KCHD, PCHD offering flu vaccinations

WINFIELD — The Kanawha-Charleston Health Department and the Putnam County Health Department are currently offering influenza vaccinations. according to a news release.

Vaccinations are available at the health departments, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

According to Kanawha-Charleston Health Department officials, “Everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccination by the end of October, if possible. Getting vaccinated later is still beneficial, even as late as January.”

Influenza activity often increases in October and November. Most of the time, flu season peaks between December and February and can last as late as May.

While walk-in patients will be accommodated, appointments are suggested. Call 304-348-8080 to schedule an appointment for Kanawha County. In Putnam County, phone 304-757-2541. For those seeking vaccinations without an appointment, wait times on Fridays are often shorter.

High-dose vaccine is available to provide additional flu protection to individuals 65 and older.

Vaccinations are given along with the other services offered by the health departments, including Hepatitis A vaccinations.

The Kanawha-Charleston Health Department is located at 108 Lee St., in Charleston. The Putnam County Health Department is located at 11878 Winfield Road in Winfield.
