Lens on History: A Fitting insurance office

In 1951, the Fitting brothers moved their offices to 15 N Broadway. Along with the move came a new name, American Premier Insurance.

In a time before 15 minutes could save you 15 percent, a person could actually talk to an insurance agent face to face. With Friedrich and Walter Fitting on the case, you wouldn’t get just an anonymous quote.

After leaving the family farm by Chatfield, Friedrich studied at the Mankato Commercial College and began selling insurance door to door in 1924. Ten years later, he partnered with his brother Walter and opened the Pioneer Insurance Company.

They were once asked to describe how it felt to open a new agency in the depths of the Great Depression. They said that they were just two young fellows wondering what was going to happen next.
