NUCLEAR WEAPONS PLANT-REFUGE
SUPERIOR, Colo. — A Colorado town near a former nuclear weapons plant has filed a lawsuit to keep part of the site from opening to the public as a wildlife refuge. The town of Superior asked a federal judge to keep the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service from opening Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge, saying the agency hasn't adequately studied safety, the Boulder Daily Camera reported Friday. SENT: 265 words.
SAFE INJECTION SITES
NEW YORK — At an unassuming storefront on a busy Brooklyn street, people sign up to use a bathroom outfitted to try to curb an overdose crisis. Waiting his turn, a man named Robert is frank about why he's there, instead of one of the stairwells, parks, rooftops or porches where he has used heroin in the past. As communities debate trying to stem overdose deaths by allowing safe havens for people to take heroin and other narcotics, places like this needle exchange program are quietly providing a model of sorts. Members of a Colorado General Assembly committee recently nixed a proposal to allow a site in Denver. By Jennifer Peltz. SENT: 1200 words, photos.
—SCHOOL BUS CRASH — Authorities say a pickup driver who fell asleep and crashed into a school bus in northern Colorado has been cited with careless driving resulting in injury. —HOUSE EXPLOSION-LAWSUIT — The Colorado Court of Appeals has reinstated a lawsuit by the victims of a house explosion after ruling that neither the city of Grand Junction nor any other governmental entity in the state is immune from lawsuits alleging negligence by agents hired by them.
