Norridgewock man dies after being struck by SUV

January 2, 2014

NORRIDGEWOCK, Maine (AP) — Police say a 70-year-old Norridgewock man was walking home after visiting a neighbor on New Year’s Eve when he was struck and killed by an SUV.

The Somerset County Sheriff’s Department says Stanley Worthley was crossing U.S. Route 2 at about 5 p.m. Tuesday when he was hit by a westbound Toyota Highlander.

Worthley was taken by helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The driver of the SUV was a 65-year-old Fayette man. He was taken to the hospital for evaluation even though he was not hurt.

The cause remains under investigation, but investigators do not think speed or alcohol were factors.
