St. Joe girls hold off rally by Liberty-Harrison
BARBOURSVILLE — Huntington St. Joe built a 5-2 lead and held off a Mountaineer rally to win 5-4 at Barboursville Park.
Abby Lee scored off an assist from McKenzie Moran, then Abi Hugh scored to give the Irish (15-2) a 2-0 lead. Cameron Karoli brought Liberty-Harrison within a goal, but Moran scored off an assist from Mina Smith to make it 3-1 at halftime.
Mya Barnes scored to pull the Raiders within 3-2, but Moran scored off an assist by Laney Whitmore, then again unassisted to make it 5-2. Sydney Cunningham and Sydney Vilain scored late for Liberty, setting the score.
Samantha Richbart saved 14 shots to earn the victory.
Huntington St. Joe returns to action at 6 p.m. Monday at Cabell Midland (9-8-1).
CABELL MIDLAND 8, CAPITAL 2: Emilie Charles scored five goals, giving her 43 for the season, to lead the Knights to a victory over the Cougars.
Elisabeth Dick scored two goals for Cabell Midland (9-8-1) and assisted on another. Isabelle Litteral also scored for the Knights. Charles, who scored a state-record 49 goals last season, issued an assist. Haley Martin assisted on two goals and Rayen Ciccolella, Harper True and Valerie Watts assisted on one apiece.
Cabell Midland returns to action at 6 p.m. Monday at home against Huntington St. Joe (15-2).
OAK HILL 2, HUNTINGTON ST. JOE 1: Michael Howerton scored the winning goal in the 34th minute to give the Red Devils a victory over the Irish at the YMCA Kennedy Center.
Jackson Hayes gave Oak Hill (6-7-1) a lead with a goal 3 minutes in, but Austin Wiles scored off an assist from Alex Treacy at the 30-minute mark to tie it.
The Irish (6-7-1) are at home vs. Huntington High on Tuesday. The girls game begins at 6 p.m., followed by the boys’ match.
