Clarks Summit Man Killed In Crestwood Industrial Park Accident

WRIGHT TWP. — A roofing worker was killed Friday morning when the boom of his large forklift hit a high-voltage power line in the Crestwood Industrial Park, Mountain Top.

Jason Evans, 43, of the Clarks Summit area, was pronounced dead at 10:43 a.m., shortly after being taken to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Twp., Luzerne County Coroner William Lisman said.

Wright Twp. police said Evans received medical attention before an ambulance from Mountain Top EMS took him to the hospital.

Evans was using a forklift to hoist materials to the roof at 9:51 a.m. when contact with the wire knocked him to the ground and started a fire in the forklift that firefighters couldn’t extinguish because of live wires, police said.

PPL Electric Utilities sent workers in at least six vehicles to assist Wright Twp. and Mountain Top fire departments on Oak Hill Road.

Authorities closed part of the road for a few hours.

A representative of the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration responded, and Lisman said an autopsy will be done sometime next week.
