Angels Place Erstad, Hollins on DL

August 11, 1998

DETROIT (AP) _ The Anaheim Angels, fighting for a playoff spot in the AL West, suffered a setback Monday when infielder Darin Erstad was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring.

Erstad was batting .303 with 19 homers and 68 RBIs, appearing in all 111 games for the Angels. He had 34 doubles, three triples, 19 stolen bases and had scored 74 runs.

Anaheim entered Monday night’s game trailing first-place Texas by two games.

Erstad, a lifetime .298 hitter since the Angels made him the first pick in the 1995 draft, was replaced by infielder Chris Pritchett from Triple-A Vancouver.

Pritchett hit .264 in 95 games with Vancouver.

The Angels also placed infielder Dave Hollins on the 15-day disabled list with an inflamed elbow. The switch-hitting Hollins was hitting .242 with 11 homers and 39 RBIs in 101 games.

Hollins was replaced by outfielder Reggie Williams from Vancouver.
