MIAMI (AP) _ Gun Deck beat C. Poppa Hall and favored Billie Osage to win the $50,050 Palm Beach Handicap on a sloppy track Saturday at Calder.

Ridden by Jose Velez Jr., the winner ran 1 1-16 miles in 1:45 1-5 after the race was switched from grass to the main course because of heavy showers.

Gun Deck paid $5.80, $3.80 and $2.60. C. Poppa Hall paid $4.80 and $3.40 1 1/4 lengths back, and Billie Osage paid $2.40 after finishing another 1 3/4 lengths back.

C. Poppa Hall and Gun Deck were battling for second at the five-eighths pole, but Gun Deck put his head in front leaving the eighth pole and edged away.

The winning Florida-bred 4-year-old won seven of 25 starts for $90,515 in earnings last year and five of 16 for $131,969 so far this year.
