Beech Island man arrested after shooting incident on Herndon Dairy Road
A Beech Island man was charged Friday in connection with a shooting incident on Herndon Dairy Road last week, which left a 64-year-old man hospitalized.
Henry Hayes Lattimer, 65, is charged with assault and attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to jail records.
On May 15, Aiken County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to 1030 Herdon Dairy Road around 9:15 a.m. in reference to a report of disturbance, according to the report.
Deputies reported seeing the victim lying in the driveway, “bleeding heavily” from his head area. They tried to question the victim, but he was incoherent.
Investigators spoke with Lattimer, the homeowner, who claimed the victim showed up at his residence after repeatedly being told he could not come over, according to the report.
A verbal argument ensued after the victim refused to leave when asked again by Lattimer, the report states.
Lattimer fired a “warning shot” with his handgun in the air, police reported.
He claimed the victim was startled by the shot, causing him to fall and hit his head – leading to a laceration on his face.
Investigators checked to see if the victim’s head injury was consistent with Lattimer’s story, but the EMS report showed an “entry and exit wound” was found in the victim’s head.
Following an investigation, Lattimer was arrested Friday and taken to the Aiken County detention center, where he was released the same day after posting a $10,000 bond, records show.
