Jury selection to begin for fatal wrong-way crash
BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Jury selection is set to begin in the case of a man accused in a wrong-way crash in Vermont that killed five teenagers.
MyChamplainValley.com reports prosecutors and attorneys for Steven Bourgoin agreed Tuesday to begin the jury selection process in late April.
Bourgoin has pleaded not guilty to five counts of murder for the 2016 crash in Williston.
The crash killed Eli Brookens, Janie Chase Cozzi, Liam Hale, Mary Harris and Cyrus Zschau as they were returning home from a concert.
Chittenden County State’s Attorney Sarah George says the victim’s families want the proceedings to get underway on schedule.
A previous attempt to move the trial’s location was denied by the judge.
Defense attorney Bob Katims has filed a notice that he plans to use an insanity defense.
