Tirkedu Houston! Israeli folk dance weekend with Aaron Alpert

January 7, 2019

The Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center of Houston presents Tirkedu Houston! Israeli Dance Workshop. This fun-filled weekend of enthusiastic Israeli dancing begins at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, and continues Friday, Jan. 25, through Sunday, Jan. 27.

The weekend will include a Friday night Ruach Service, a Shabbat Dinner with the Congregation, followed by schmoozing and dancing, teaching sessions for intermediate to advance dancers with reviews at the end of each session, and a Saturday night dance party.

Leading the workshop is young, talented and energetic teacher Aaron Alpert, who started dancing before he was born. His parents met at Israeli folk dancing in Los Angeles, and his childhood is filled with dance memories. He first began teaching at UC Berkeley in 2007 as one of the instructors and curriculum developers for the Israeli Dance DeCal class. He also began to guest teach and DJ at the various San Francisco Bay Area sessions.

In October 2012, Aaron established his own dance session, Nirkoda! He began teaching at dance camps and workshops in 2016, including Rikud, MachoLA, Belev Echad, and the international Stockton Folk Dance Camp.

“I enjoy organizing my own events, such as workshops with Nona Malki and camp with Yaron Malihi,” stated Alpert.

“Aaron is an amazing, energetic teacher; his teaching is very clear and precise,” said Dee Jacobson, one of the coordinators of Israeli Dance at the J.

The fees for the workshop are $70 JCC member; $100 general public; and $50 with valid student ID. For more information and to register, visit our website at www.erjcchouston.org/dance to download the registration form, or contact Maxine Silberstein at 713-551-7217.
