December 19, 2018

ANACORTES — Anacortes Mayor Laurie Gere announced Tuesday that Jonn Lunsford will take over as the city Parks and Recreation director following the retirement of Gary Robinson.

There were 28 applicants for the position, according to a city news release.

“We conducted a national search and found the best qualified candidate here in Anacortes,” Gere said in the release.

Lunsford, previously the operations and forest lands manager, brings 17 years of knowledge in managing the city’s parks, trails and forest lands, according to the release.

“I am honored to be selected to serve as the Parks and Recreation director,” Lunsford said in the release. “Anacortes is my home, and I truly believe that community involvement is key to our success.”

Lunsford will begin his role as director on Jan. 8 following the City Council’s confirmation of his position.
