Care assistant charged with stealing from disabled veteran
BOSTON (AP) — A grand jury in Boston has indicted a personal care assistant on charges she stole nearly $128,500 from a disabled Vietnam War veteran for whom she was caring.
The Suffolk County grand jury Thursday indicted 48-year-old Michelle Allix of South Boston on eight larceny charges. Arraignment was set for April 16.
Prosecutors say Allix stole the money while working as a part-time personal care assistant for the 64-year-old veteran between September 2010 and October 2013. Authorities say Allix also is civilian employee of the Boston Police Department, and she was suspended without pay Thursday.
Officials say Allix withdrew more than $120,000 from the victims’ bank account, including ATM withdrawals at casinos.
Allix didn’t immediately return a phone message seeking comment Friday. It’s not clear if she has a lawyer.
