Rory Schlaich

Rory V. Schlaich, 63, of Herscher, passed away Monday, December 24, 2018, at Citadel of Kankakee.

He was born February 14, 1955, in Kankakee, to Laverne E. and Frances A. (Thompson) Schlaich.

Rory graduated from Herscher High School and attended Southern Illinois University. He worked for many years at Emling Construction and Emling Components & Millwork in Herscher. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Herscher where he served as a Sunday school teacher and usher.

He served for four years as a member of the Herscher Village Board. He also enjoyed umpiring for Little League baseball and girl’s softball in Herscher. He really loved supporting Herscher High School athletics, the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago White Sox.

In his retirement, he enjoyed gardening and listening to music. Most of all, he loved his family, friends and all the children he ever met. Rory will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Surviving are three sisters and brothers-in-law, Diana (Bill) Cisler, of Abilene, Texas, Wynette Sue (Jack) Gross, of Rogersville, Mo., and Joni (Mike) Weakley, of Onarga; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Terry Schlaich, of Baker City, Ore., and Kurt (Tammy) Schlaich, of Cherokee Village, Ark. Also surviving are his lifelong friend, David Webber, of Bradley; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Morey Laverne and William A.; a brother-in-law, Rudy Splear; and a niece, Linda Morris.

Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial visitation will be from 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, until the noon memorial service at Trinity Lutheran Church in Herscher. The Rev. Eric Brown will officiate the service.
