Slain Springfield teen remembered as loving daughter
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A Springfield teenager stabbed to death in her own home was remembered at her wake as a loyal friend, enthusiastic student-athlete, and a loving daughter, sister and cousin.
Seventeen-year-old Kathryn Mauke is scheduled to be buried Friday following a wake Thursday attended by classmates from SABIS International Charter School, friends and family, and Mayor Domenic Sarno.
Mauke was found stabbed on Feb. 11.
Her ex-boyfriend is facing a murder charge.
Mauke’s cousin, Damien Pittola, remembered her as a “beautiful soul.”
Mauke is survived by her parents and two sisters.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Sampson’s Chapel of the Acres, with burial to follow.
