Vermont gets $250K in rural housing grants

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — Four Vermont organizations are sharing a total of $250,000 in federal grants to help rural families repair and rehabilitate their homes.

The grants announced Friday from the United States Department of Agriculture are going to Southwestern Vermont Community Action Program, the Vermont Center for Independent Living in Montpelier and Northeast Employment and Training Organization and Gilman Housing Trust/ Rural Edge Inc. in the Northeast Kingdom.

Southwestern Vermont Community Action Program and the Vermont Center for Independent Living each received a $25,000 grant to help 20 families make home repairs.

Grants of $100,000 each are going to Northeast Employment and Training Organization and Gilman Housing Trust/ Rural Edge Inc. to help 45 families in Orleans, Essex and Caledonia counties.
