West Virginia official seeks 2nd nursing home for veterans
BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) — A West Virginia official wants to build a second nursing home for veterans and hopes to secure funding for it during the next regular legislative session.
The Register-Herald reports the cabinet secretary of the state Department of Veterans Assistance estimates it will cost about $12 million to build the facility in Beckley. Secretary Dennis Davis says the Department of Agriculture has already donated the land. He says he plans to ask Gov. Jim Justice about possible funding before the 2020 legislative session.
The state has one nursing home for veterans in Clarksburg. Authorities said last year that the facility had about $5.5 million in unpaid bills dating as far back as 2013. They said there was no evidence of fraud, and the 120-bed facility had fallen behind on payments.
