Standoff in Crosland Park ends with man in custody

April 5, 2019

An Aiken Department of Public Safety pursuit on the north side of Aiken on Thursday turned into a nearly 2-hour standoff situation, which ultimately ended with the subject of the pursuit in custody.

At approximately 3:55 p.m., ADPS received a report of a disturbance and possible a man with a gun on the 1200 block of Alfred Street, according to Lt. Jake Mahoney.

Once ADPS arrived a male subject in dark clothing fled the scene on foot and entered a house on the corner of Schroder Avenue and Hahn Street, at which point the officer in pursuit called for backup. ADPS and SWAT spent about an hour and 25 minutes trying to make contact with the subject.

The subject surrendered to law enforcement after contact was made.

“At this time we don’t know the subject’s relationship to the original call,” Mahoney said.
