Reason for coming to the Skagit Valley: “There was a hippie commune in Marblemount. I was 18.”

Best part of living in the valley: “The scenery first, and then the community.”

Favorite pizza: “The Persian. Spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, garlic and feta cheese. Then if you put some pepperoncini on it, it really adds to it.”

Spirit animal: “A Great Blue Heron. They seem to pop out in times of life change.”

The world would be a better place if: “Everybody respected each other.”

What did you want to be when you grew up? “I was confused because I knew I didn’t want to be a doctor or a nurse or a secretary or a teacher. I wanted to be an artist.”

Hobbies: Quilting, specifically art quilts.

What would you do with $1 million? “Give the restaurant to the kids and take off traveling.”

Where would you like to travel? “The British Isles, Scotland. And then Italy or France.”

Favorite book: “I just finished reading ‘Soul of an Octopus,’ which really struck me. Usually I just like historical fiction.”

Favorite part about the holidays: “Getting together with friends and family.”

Favorite season in the valley: “Spring. Everyone’s all hopeful for what’s coming up.”

Three things to take to a deserted island: “Sewing stuff and lots of fabric. Music. Food.”
