Ole Miss Couple Commences With Campus Wedding
OXFORD, Miss. (AP) _ Nina Cates and Lawrence Gwin earned law degrees at the University of Mississippi, and decided the campus was the best place for them to enter their marriage contract.
″Ole Miss is just too important,″ Miss Cates, 23, of Horn Lake, said before Saturday’s ceremony. ″We just couldn’t think of anything nicer.″
Miss Cates, who had received her law degree earlier Saturday, married Gwin, 26, of Bay City, Texas, as about 30 friends and relatives watched. The ceremony was performed by state Supreme Court Justice James L. Robertson.
The wedding party stood under a canopy of blooming magnolias, elms and oaks, across the street from The Lyceum, the campus administration building.
Miss Cates said the two met three years ago on campus and got engaged in February 1984, three months before Gwin graduated from law school.
He went to Texas to practice law with his father, who also graduated from Ole Miss.
The couple say they plan to form another partnership - the law firm of Gwin and Gwin.
