Dodgers Acquire Orie From Marlins
LOS ANGELES (AP) _ The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired infielder Kevin Orie from the Florida Marlins today for a minor leaguer to be named.
Orie, 27, hit .254 with six homers and 29 RBIs in 77 games for the Marlins last season.
He has spent parts of three seasons in the majors, and was the Chicago Cubs’ opening day third baseman in 1997, when he batted .275 with eight homers and 44 RBIs in 114 games.
He also was second among NL third basemen in fielding with a .971 field percentage, making just nine errors in 312 chances.
Orie has a career batting average of .248, with 22 homers and 111 RBIs.
``We’ve been trying to find corner infield depth, so we are pleased to acquire Kevin Orie, which helps strengthen us in that regard,″ Dodgers general manager Kevin Malone said.
