Steelers training camp primer: Time for injured players to return?

August 6, 2018

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger rolls out during practice Thursday, July 27, 2018 at Saint Vincent College.

Each day of Steelers training camp, the Trib rounds up some things to watch for during practice at Saint Vincent:

Return to health?: A slew of starters did not practice Monday because of a variety of minor ailments. Included were safeties Morgan Burnett and Sean Davis, wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, tight end Vance McDonald and outside linebacker T.J. Watt. The most likely candidate to return is Burnett, who did some individual work Monday and may be ready for full participation.

Rapport with receivers: Ben Roethlisberger wasn’t happy with the routes that some of his pass catchers ran in Monday’s drills. He was vocal about his displeasure. Will everyone be on the same page today?

Run, James, run: James Conner is healthy, and it is showing in the way he has run thus far in camp. Conner has been the most impressive running back and seems to be taking advantage of the opportunity provided by Le’Veon Bell’s absence.

Practice time: 2:55-5 p.m.

Where: Chuck Noll Field, Saint Vincent
