Ridgefield firm adds $50M food distributor in San Francisco
The Chefs’ Warehouse acquired Bassian Farms, which has annual sales of about $50 million supplying meat, seafood and other foods to restaurants in the San Francisco area.
The Ridgefield-based Chefs’ Warehouse did not disclose immediately its purchase price for Bassian Farms, which traces its history to 1960 and has operated in its current incarnation since 1995.
Speaking generally two weeks ago on his company’s appetite for acquisitions, CEO Chris Pappas said he sees no shortage of possible targets, including for meat distributors. Acquisitions contributed to an 11 percent increase in Chefs’ Warehouse sales last year to more than $1.4 billion.
“We’re really taking our time being extremely choosy,” Pappas said. “We’ve gotten our arms around our protein division — it’s getting better and better — so for us to do an acquisition it’s got to fall in our guidelines, in our comfort zone, in what we’re willing to pay.”
