ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) _ In a match that saw several lead changes, the U.S. team led by Marinesa Letizia won the gold medal in the women's team event at the World Bridge Championships.

In the final 30 boards, Letizia's partner was Jillian Blanchard, who has opposed holding separate women's events in bridge. But Blanchard didn't want to talk about such separation on Tuesday.

''It's my first world championship, and it feels fantastic,'' she said.

Team Letizia defeated the foursome led by Sally Woolsey, 119-114. JoAnn Manfield and Joann Glasson played the final round for the Woolsey group.

At 27 boards, it had been Letizia 108, Woolsey 104. But Manfield-Glasson came back with a six-club contract that put them up 114-108.

Set one in the 28th board, the Woolsey lead was whittled to one, 114-113, and Team Letizia regained the lead 118-114 with board 29 and made two unneeded overtricks on a two-diamond contract on the 30th board to win it all, 119-114.
