Spring athletes selected to baseball All-District teams

May 24, 2019

Spring Independent School District baseball coaches revealed the District 16-6A All-District teams following the end of the 2018-19 regular season and playoffs.

The Spring Lions placed in district for the third consecutive season with an 18-9 overall and 13-1 district record as first-year head coach Jeremy Willis build upon what had been done the last two years. Westfield finished second with a 11-3 record under head coach Mario Barrett and have made postseason three years in a row after 2016 was the first season in 18 years that a Mustang team got in. Aldine placed third and MacArthur fourth.

In postseason play, the Lions finished as bi-district finalists after losing to Klein 12-2 in a one-game playoff, while the Mustangs also finished as bi-district finalists after falling to Oak Ridge 12-1 in a one-game series.

In the superlatives, Spring senior infielder Bryce Yosko was named Most Valuable Player of the Year.

“Yosko played as a freshman for us, has been four years on varsity,” Willis said.

Yosko is committed to Northeast Texas Community College.

“I’m excited and blessed to say that I have committed to Northeast Texas,” Yosko said via Twitter, also thanking his family and coaches.

Fellow teammate junior Brayden Musgrove was named Newcomer of the Year and Spring’s Jeremy Willis was named Coach of the Year.

“Coach (Lou) Ferrell did a great job, I was the assistant there,” Willis said. “Just trying to build, keep on building the program the way it’s been.”
