NEW YORK (AP) — New York Mets Jacob deGrom has some nice paydays ahead. A person familiar with the negotiations tells The Associated Press the NL Cy Young Award winner Jacob deGrom and the Mets have agreed to a $137.5 million, five-year contract. The right-hander turns 31 in June and finished last season with a 1.70 ERA, allowing three runs or fewer in 29 consecutive starts.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Major League Baseball is punishing a team executive over physical altercation with his wife. MLB has suspended San Francisco Giants President and CEO Larry Baer without pay until July 1 after TMZ release video of the incident. Commissioner Rob Manfred calls Baer’s conduct “unacceptable,” adding Baer should be held to a higher standard because of his position as a leader of the franchise.

ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — The Oakland Raiders have added another backup quarterback to their roster, signing free agent Landry Jones. Jones was originally a fourth-round pick by Pittsburgh in 2013, playing in 18 games for the Steelers including five starts. He joins Mike Glennon and Nathan Peterman as potential backups behind Derek Carr.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Former Oakland Raiders running back Clem Daniels has died at age 83. Daniels played nine seasons of pro football starting with the Dallas Texans of the AFL in 1960. He spent his next seven seasons with the Raiders where he had his greatest success before finishing his career with the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers in 1968. Daniels ranks as the AFL’s all-time leading rusher, with 5,101 yards.

PRAGUE (AP) — A court in the Czech Republic has sentenced a man to eight years in prison after convicting him of knifing two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova. The attack took place in Kvitova’s home in December 2016. She needed surgery to repair the injuries to her playing hand, and it took the left-hander more than five months to recover. Since then, however, Kvitova has risen to a career-high No. 2 ranking and reached the Australian Open final in January.
