Point of Interest: Food hall concept scrapped for old post office

October 9, 2018

421 Atlantic St.: The old U.S. Post Office on Atlantic Street, closed years ago amid an ongoing mail drought, will re-open next year — but not as a post office or as a food hall. Cappelli, the White Plains, N.Y.-based developer charged with the renovation and construction of a second Atlantic Station apartment tower nearby, said three tenants have signed leases to move into the old post office. Bruce Berg, CEO of Cappelli’s development arm, Fuller Development Co., said the company “abandoned” the food hall concept. The upscale eatery plan was announced with much fanfare in 2016. He declined to say what companies will occupy the space. Meanwhile, foundation work on the second tower began this fall, he said. Berg declined to say when construction will begin or end on the tower.
