Woman who had baby cut from belly released from hospital
LONGMONT, Colorado (AP) — A woman whose unborn baby was cut from her womb by a stranger with a kitchen knife has been released from a hospital.
Relatives of 26-year-old Michelle Wilkins said Wednesday that she’s in a safe location a week after the attack but faces a long recovery. The baby girl didn’t survive.
Police say 34-year-old Dynel Lane lured Wilkins to her home with a Craigslist ad for baby clothes. Police say Lane then beat and stabbed Wilkins and removed the unborn baby. Lane was arrested at a hospital after telling her husband she had a miscarriage. Prosecutors plan to charge her Friday.
Wilkins, who had recently moved to Colorado, was about eight months pregnant. Relatives say she planned to name the baby Aurora.
