SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Number one bragging rights in college football are just hours away. Clemson and Alabama compete tonight in the College Football Championship at Santa Clara, California. Alabama already has five national championships in the past nine seasons.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Record-setting Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins Jr. says he is leaving school to enter the NFL draft. The third-year sophomore said on Twitter that he will depart the program after one year as a starter in which he broke most school and Big Ten single-season passing records. He also finished third in Heisman Trophy voting. It’s likely Haskins will be a first-round draft pick.

NEW YORK (AP) — Texas quarterback Vince Young and Notre Dame speedster Raghib “Rocket” Ismail have been selected for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, along with 11 other players and two coaches. Young was the Heisman Trophy runner-up and led the Longhorns to the 2005 national championship. Ismail was the Heisman runner-up in 1990. The other inductees include Arizona state quarterback Jake Plummer and USC defensive back Troy Polamalu (pohl-uh-MAH’-loo).

NEW YORK (AP) — The Jets have interviewed former Colts and Lions coach Jim Caldwell for their head coaching vacancy. It marks the fifth known interview New York has conducted since firing coach Todd Bowles last Sunday. The 63-year-old Caldwell was most recently Detroit’s coach, going 36-28 from 2014-17. New York has also interviewed former Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy, Dallas assistant Kris Richard, Kansas City offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and former Miami coach Adam Gase.

MOSCOW (AP) — The World Anti-Doping Agency is returning to the Moscow anti-doping lab this week in hopes of obtaining data it did not receive before a Dec. 31 deadline. The Russians were supposed to turn over the data as part of an agreement to reinstate Russia’s anti-doping agency. A WADA committee is scheduled to consider reimposing the ban next week.
