Purged Bolshevik’s Works To Be Published

September 16, 1988

MOSCOW (AP) _ A collection of works by Nikolai I. Bukharin, a Bolshevik theorist shot under dictator Josef Stalin, has been published in another step toward his rehabilitation, Tass reported today.

The official news agency said the new book includes Bukharin’s articles and comments on communist theory and party politics, economic policy and culture. It said the book, prepared by the Institute of Marxism-Leninism of the party’s Central Committee, coincides with the centennial of Bukharin’s birth.

Tass called Bukharin a ″distinguished social scientist whose name and writings have for long been unfairly buried in oblivion.″

Bukharin was cleared in February of spying charges for which he was shot in 1938. The party re-admitted him posthumously in July.

The rehabilitation was part of a review launched by Soviet leader Mikhail S. Gorbachev of Communist Party officials killed or arrested by Stalin.

Bukharin, an economist, favored moderate economic policies that are similar to those being implemented by Gorbachev.

The Soviet press has published several articles in recent months on Bukharin. On Tuesday, the newspaper Sovietskaya Kultura reported a lecture he had delivered in Paris two years before he was shot.
