BRISTOL, Conn. (AP) _ Pitcher Ben Collins scored the game’s only run and outdueled Juan Almonte as New Hampshire beat New York 1-0 in extra innings to win the Eastern Regional title and advance to the Little League World series.

Collins, who struck out 11 and walked two, drew a walk to open the seventh. He scored all the way from first base when the New York defense misplayed Jarek Ostrowski’s single to right.

``They took a big gamble, and that won the ballgame for them,″ said Alberbo Gonzalez, manager of the Bronx team.

Collins kept running as the ball was mishandled in right by Victor Tores. Tores then threw to third base, but Collins scored easily when Jesus Hernandez couldn’t handle the throw.

``The way this game was being played, it would come down to one play and that was our only real opportunity,″ said Frank Szumiesz, manager of the Goffstown, N.H., team.

In the bottom of the seventh, New York had two runners on base, but Collins struck out Pedro Guzman to end the game.

Almonte, who also struck out 11, finished with a two-hitter in pitching a complete game. He did not allow a hit until the sixth when Jonathan Berube singled with one out.

Goffstown is the first team from New Hampshire to reach the World Series since Bedford accomplished the feat in 1993.
