WASHINGTON — Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court faces a crucial test Friday, one likely to signal if he has enough support to win confirmation and establish a conservative majority on the court.

Amid partisan rancor, the Senate is scheduled to vote at 10:30 a.m. whether to formally end debate on Kavanaugh’s nomination, a procedural step required under Senate rules before a final vote.
