Twe Explosions Fell Electric Towers, Five Hurt
LUXEMBOURG (AP) _ Two explosions brought down a string of four high-voltage electric towers on the outskirts of Luxembourg, blacking out most of the city for about an hour and slightly injuring five motorists, police said Wednesday.
The explosions late Tuesday wrecked towers between the southern outskirts of Luxembourg and Leudelange, a village five miles south of the capital, police said.
Five people were slightly injured when several high-voltage cables fell on two highways, causing accidents among passing cars, police said.
A local newspaper, the Luxembourger Wort, said it received an anonymous telephone call 11 hours after the explosions claiming the bombs were planted by a group called the Fighting Ecologist Movement.
Police spokesman Romain Nettgen said the group had not been heard of before.
Police set up roadblocks in and around Luxembourg, but they were removed some hours later. No arrests were made.
