INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) _ Lisa Leslie scored six of her 13 points during a decisive second-half run as the Los Angeles Sparks beat the Phoenix Mercury 67-58 Sunday for their seventh win in their last eight games.
Trailing 42-40 with 9:16 to play, Leslie’s basket began a 13-0 run that put the Sparks ahead 53-42 with 4:58 left. She also made four of six free throw attempts during the run.
Phoenix responded with eight consecutive points, cutting the deficit to 53-50 with 2:58 left on Jennifer Gillom’s 3-pointer.
With 1:22 to play, Edna Campbell hit one of two free throws to pull Phoenix to within 57-55. But the Sparks sealed the victory on Mwadi Mabika’s layup and free throws by Penny Toler and Tamecka Dixon in the final minute.
DeLisha Milton led Los Angeles with 14 points and eight rebounds.
Campbell scored 10 of her 17 in the first half, and Gillom added 11 as the Mercury lost its sixth consecutive game.
Phoenix led 29-26 at halftime.
