LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — A former director of the United States Olympic Committee has been hired by Everton as the English Premier League club’s academy director.

Peter Vint was senior director of competitive analysis, research, and innovation with the USOC. He headed up a team of sports science and medical professionals that supported five national governing bodies, including USA Track and Field and USA Swimming, at the London Olympics in 2012.

Everton has a strong track record of bringing through homegrown talent, with Wayne Rooney and Ross Barkley products of the academy.

Vint says “the club also takes great pride in finding and developing exceptional young footballers and placing academy graduates on a path towards our first team.”

Everton manager Roberto Martinez says Vint’s appointment “is progressive in the British game, an appointment that will benefit our development pathway immensely.”
