Ice, freezing rain add up to dangerous conditions in Chicago
CHICAGO (AP) — Rain, freezing rain and the possibility of snow has authorities in the Chicago area warning drivers about dangerous roadways, schools canceling events and shutting down early and airlines at Chicago’s two major airports canceling hundreds of flights.
The National Weather Service says Tuesday’s evening commute will be particularly slippery and has issued a weather advisory until midnight.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports that more than 100 schools, day care centers and park districts in the area have either closed early or canceled Tuesday evening activities.
Among the first to feel the effects of the weather were travelers at the city’s two airports. By 1:30 p.m., 460 flights were canceled at O’Hare International Airport and another 80 had been canceled at Midway International Airport.
