Man Held in Slayings of Family
GOLD RIVER, Calif. (AP) _ A 20-year-old construction worker is suspected of killing his mother, father and grandmother in the family’s upscale suburban home, authorities said.
Shawn Stewart MacLellan, who lived with his parents, was arrested without confrontation Wednesday night outside the home about 12 miles east of Sacramento.
His 17-year-old brother, returning home from an after-school job, discovered the bodies and found his only sibling pacing restlessly in the living room, authorities said. The brother called 911.
Sheriff’s Sgt. John McGinness said MacLellan ``didn’t go into any motive other than that he’d been doing crank,″ a slang term for methamphetamine.
The father, Claude MacLellan, 50, was a contractor. His wife, Marilyn MacLellan, worked at a financial services company. They were shot to death, authorities said.
The 80-year-old grandmother, Lucille Schultz, lived in the area and was visiting the family. She was fatally stabbed.
The brother is not under suspicion, McGinness said.
Shawn MacLellan was expected to be formally charged with the murders Monday.
