PITTSBURGH (AP) _ Eleven men have been indicted in connection with a drug ring that brought 1,200 pounds of heroin and 2,600 pounds of cocaine into western Pennsylvania each year for the past four years, authorities said Friday.

Attorney General John Ashcroft said the arrests were part of a crackdown on Pittsburgh’s ``serious and growing″ drug trade. There were 129 heroin-related deaths in the city last year, an 88 percent increase from 2000.

In a seven-count indictment unsealed Friday, the 11 men were each charged with conspiracy and distribution of crack cocaine and heroin.
